South India Women’s Pilgrimage: A Journey with the Goddess

The first group of women we took to India unlocked something extraordinary. It wasn’t just the colour, the chaos, or even the temples — it was the way the journey opened each of us, layer by layer. The long bus rides became spaces of belly laughter. The quiet temple courtyards became places where tears of recognition fell. Women who arrived as strangers left as sisters. These women who are open to adventure and depth.

Since then, our pilgrimages have become one of our greatest joys. This will be our fourth, and every time we return, India shows us something new — not just about her, but about ourselves.

We’ve always known why we’re drawn here. South India drips with goddess energy. She is Shakti embodied — in the temples, in the rhythm of daily life, in the women balancing baskets on their heads with grace, in the fierce beauty of Kali and the gentle embrace of Lalita. This is not a trip where you just tick sights off a list; it’s an initiation into something older, deeper, and profoundly feminine.

The Journey Unfolds

We begin in Kochi, where the air smells of cardamom and cinnamon, and where the sea carries in centuries of stories. It’s always been the perfect soft landing — not overwhelming, but alive enough to remind us we’ve arrived somewhere very different from home. We wander spice markets, watch the Chinese fishing nets sway against the sunset, and begin to find our rhythm as a group.

From there, we climb into the green embrace of Munnar. The hills roll out like carpets of tea leaves, mist curls around the mountains, and everything slows down. There’s something about breathing mountain air that clears the mind. Past groups have often said this is where they first felt the shift — from the outside world into something quieter, more spacious.

Madurai is a jolt back into the sacred. The Meenakshi Amman Temple doesn’t just stand; it vibrates. Painted towers covered in gods and goddesses rise into the sky, and inside the air hums with chanting, bells, and devotion. Here, the goddess isn’t an idea — she’s alive. We’ve seen women in our groups moved to tears just stepping inside. It’s impossible not to feel the pulse of Shakti.

After the intensity of Madurai, Pondicherry feels like exhaling. The pastel streets, the French cafés, the seaside promenade — they remind us that India is never just one thing. Here we rest, shop, eat, and laugh together. Pondy has become a favourite spot for late-night conversations and the kind of friendships that feel like they’ll last a lifetime.

And then, the crown jewel: Auroville and the Matrimandir. Nothing prepares you for it. From the outside, the golden globe gleams like something not of this earth. Inside, in its still white chamber, light pours down onto a crystal sphere, and silence wraps around you like a blessing. Every time we sit there, we’re reminded: this is what women’s visions can build. It was one woman’s dream, and now it’s a sanctuary for seekers from all over the world. For us, this is where the journey gathers everything we’ve seen and felt — the devotion, the laughter, the tears, the beauty — and distils it into pure presence.

Why We Keep Returning

When we first shared about our pilgrimages, casually on Instagram, the trip sold out in ten days. We realised then how many women were yearning for exactly this: time away from family obligations, a safe adventure with like-hearted companions, and a chance to immerse in a culture that honours spirit in every breath.

Past pilgrims tell us again and again that it wasn’t just the temples or the tea plantations they remember — it was the way they re-discovered themselves. One woman said she hadn’t laughed so much in years. Another spoke of how she finally felt her own strength reflected back to her. These are the moments that keep us returning.

Because India doesn’t just show you herself. She shows you you.

A Pilgrimage with the Goddess

This journey is not a yoga retreat, though there will be moments of meditation, reflection, and stillness woven throughout. It’s not a holiday either, where everything is polished and predictable. Instead, it’s a pilgrimage — a journey that invites you into the wild, surprising, sometimes chaotic rhythm of India, and holds you there with gentleness, community, and care.

And through it all, the goddess. The divine feminine. Shakti in her many forms — laughing, crying, weaving, dissolving, creating anew.

That’s why we keep returning. That’s why we’d love you to come with us.
