Ayurvedic Facial Steaming with Essential Oils & Herbs
Aug 29, 2020
Ayurvedic facial steaming with essential oils and herbs is a beautiful way to take a moment to pause, be mindful and nourish your skin. I love to do this in the evening before I take my shower as it opens the pores an allows the goodness of my serums and moisturisers to be absorbed into the deep layers of the skin.
Firstly I remove my make-up with my oil cleanser, which is simply fractionated coconut oil, geranium and frankincense essential oils.
Then I prepare one of my grandmother's vintage crystal bowls with fresh foraged and dried herbs, add a little cold water then top with boiled water from the kettle.
I then add a few drops of essential oils, like bergamot, sandalwood, rose or neroli.
Next lean over and let the steam engulf your face and take some lovely deep breaths with eyes closed, enjoy the divine experience, sitting and visualising the incredible properties of the plants nourishing your skin and soul as well as balancing your mood.
Afterwards I will take my shower, then after that gently pat dry the face and spritz with a facial toner made with colloidal silver and essential oils and apply my blue tansy facial serum.
I alway find that I have the best sleep and when I wake my skin still is glowing, looks and feels hydrated.
choosing your herbs
It's best to use organic or pesticide free herbs and flowers. I grow my own herbs in our garden, so I will pick what looks good or what I'm intuitively drawn to. I also buy organic rose petals, jasmine buds and other herbs for my local bulk foods store like Scoop Wholefoods.
Calendula - moisturising, anti-ageing and soothing.
Chamomile - anti-inflammatory, prevention f wrinkles and calming
Cornflower - soothes and decongests, acts as an astringent and lightens the complexion.
Dandelion - releases impurities
Raspberry Leaf - soothes sensitive skin and balances hormones.
Lavender - soothing, calming and reduces redness.
Jasmine - refreshing and enhances femininity.
Rose Petals - anti-inflammatory, help with sun damage and pigmentation.
Sage - improves circulation.
Yarrow - heals wounds and enhances circulation.
Lemon Balm - calms anxious feelings and balances mood.
Essential oils i love to use
The purity and therapeutic benefits of doTERRA essential oils far outweigh any other essential oils on the market today. They are third party tested for 100% purity, the last thing you want to be putting on your skin and into you body is synthetic fragrance and other nasties. That's one of the big reasons I choose to use doTERRA.
Choosing essential oils for this practice I look for oils that will support me emotionally, that are grounding, loving and uplifting. As well as have impactful benefits for my skin.
Bergamot - the oils of self-acceptance, relieving feelings of self judgment or limiting beliefs. It's also a powerful cleanser and combats environmental stresses.
Neroli - oil of shared purpose and partnership. It's a beautiful oil to calm and soothe skin irritations and reduce the appearance of blemishes. It's particularly helpful for women when it comes to cellular health and hormone balance.
Rose - the oil of divine love. It holds the highest vibrational energy over any other oil on the planet. It promotes healthy and even skin tone, balances moisture and elasticity. It's also an amazing support for the nervous system.
Sandalwood - the oil of sacred devotion. A sweet woody oil that's used to balance the emotions and promote a restful nights sleep. It's benefits for the skin are nourishing, rejuvenating and your skin will be visibly healthier.
Frankincense - the oil of truth. A divine oil that will reduce inflammation, rejuvenate the skin and reduce the appearance of skin imperfections. It also enhances the benefits of all the other essential oils that you choose to blend it with.
Swapping out your beauty products with essential oils, herbs and other ingredients sourced directly from Mother Nature will be life changing. You're not only reducing the toxins your body needs to process, your removing potentially harming ingredients linked to cancer, respiratory issues and other sinister illnesses, your also supporting your emotional health! So its a triple win.
