Edible flowers are my favourite and are so fun to introduce to your kitchen. There are probably so many more flowers than you realise that you could be growing and getting enjoyment from whether it's in your favourite dishes, DIY's or herbal medicines. So here's my top 5 reasons to grow edible flowers in your garden...

I've been busy creating my edible & medicinal garden and have planted so many herbs, veggies, cut & edible flowers… I am definitely a flower addict and have always loved them around our little Urban Homestead.

Somethings to note when planning your edible garden:

🌸 Always choose organic non-GMO sees, seedlings or plants. This way you'll get the best quality plants as well as being able to seed save, so you'll have a continuous supply.
🌸 Always ensure you identify flowers first as some flowers look similar and could be toxic.
🌸 Some flowers such as Elderflower need to be fermented or cooked before eating. Elderflowers trees contain cyanide, but this is broken down with the cooking process, however be careful to remove all the stems.
🌸 Flowers bought at florists, Fruit & Veg shops and supermarkets are usually from large farms where pesticides are freely used, so steer clear of those. Only purchase flowers specifically labelled edible.

And remember you don't need a huge space or budget, good quality seeds and growing containers are readily available online or at your local nursery.

I am working on a beautiful offering 'Birdsong Urban Homestead' if you'd like to be the first to know add you email to the waitlist here.

In the meantime happy gardening and thanks for dropping by.
